The government has decided to provide ten million kronor in support to human rights defenders, democracy advocates and other actors working to increase freedom of expression in Iran.

The support, which is distributed through Sida, can, for example, go towards strengthening the security of people who work peacefully for social change, says Minister of International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, Benjamin Dousa.

Can ten million make any difference?

No one can do everything, but everyone can do something, and we hope that more European countries will follow suit.

Iran was rocked by protests at the beginning of the year, during which thousands of activists were killed, according to exile organizations.

The regime's extremely violent response to the recent protests is a clear example that the human rights situation is very, very serious, says Dousa.
