Although the free admission reform, which provided free access to state-run museums for adults over 19 was discontinued and admission fees were reinstated from January 1, 2023, there are still museums that offer free entry or have specific days with free admission. Here are some tips from Sweden Herald on things you can do in Stockholm for free.

Moderna Museet

For those interested in modern and contemporary art, a visit to Moderna Museet on Skeppsholmen is a must. The museum's collection includes paintings, sculptures, photographs, and installations. You can see works by both contemporary artists and influential 20th-century artists like Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, and Andy Warhol. Moderna Museet offers free entry on Fridays from 6 to 8 PM.

Liljevalchs Konsthall

Located on Djurgården, Liljevalchs Konsthall focuses on contemporary works, including paintings, sculptures, and installations by both Swedish and international artists. Liljevalchs' annual Spring Salon, held from mid-January to March, invites anyone over 18 to submit their work for jury selection. The chosen pieces are exhibited and available for sale, giving emerging artists a chance to showcase and sell their work. Admission is free on Mondays from 11 AM to 5 PM.

Stadsmuseet

For history enthusiasts, a visit to the City Museum (Stadsmuseet) at Slussen is recommended. Here, you can learn everything about Stockholm through 500 years of history and gain insights into the lives of its inhabitants from the Middle Ages to the present day. Entry is free for all visitors.

Parkteatern

If you want to experience culture under the open sky, visit one of Parkteatern's music concerts, theater performances, circus shows, and dance performances for both children and adults. These events take place on various outdoor stages and in parks around Stockholm each summer, and all performances are free. For this summer's program, see Parkteatern's website: Parkteatern.

Other Museums with Free Entry or Free Entry on Certain Days

  • Bonniers Konsthall
  • The National Sports Museum of Sweden (Riksidrottsmuseet)
  • Accelerator
  • The Jewish Museum (Judiska museet)

Please visit the museums' websites for addresses and exact opening hours.
