The last time it happened, in Euro 2024, Denmark made it to the final - but then they lost to France. Now the red and whites got their revenge.
The team ultimately took a convincing victory over Germany in the final in Herning, Denmark.
"It means everything," says Simon Pytlick, who scored eight goals in the final, the most of any player.
Early red card
The first half was very even, and the match was tied for a long time. However, Denmark was the team that showed their strength, especially after Germany's Tom Kieslers was sent off after 13 minutes.
At half-time, the home team led by two goals. Germany was able to equalize on occasions, but Denmark was able to pull away again time and again.
In the final minutes, German players were sent off several times, and with three minutes left to play, Jannik Kohlbacher was shown a second red card. The German defense then found it difficult to resist, and Denmark eventually won by seven goals.
Host's player named MVP
"We've played really well throughout the championship and, of course, to win here at home feels incredible. The atmosphere is absolutely crazy, I'm really happy that I don't have to play against us here in this arena," says Pytlick.
It is the country's third European Championship gold and ninth European Championship medal. The last gold came 14 years ago, in 2012.
Danish right-back Mathias Gidsel was named the tournament's best player after finishing as top scorer with 68 goals.
Croatia took home the European Championship bronze medal after winning against Iceland 34–33 in the bronze medal match earlier on Sunday.
