The threat picture against Denmark is so high that the preparedness for the energy sector is raised to the second-highest level, orange. This has not happened since the attack on the gas pipeline Nord Stream in September 2022.
The risk of sabotage and hybrid attacks against the sector is great, says Minister of Energy and Climate Lars Aagaard.
The decision has been made based on an assessment of the threat picture against Denmark and means that the security requirements for Denmark's energy facilities are tightened. This can, for example, mean increased surveillance of and restricted access to energy infrastructure. According to the assessment, there is, however, no concrete threat right now, emphasizes the minister.
Aagaard refers to Ukraine, where the energy sector has been exposed to multiple attacks and sabotage during Russia's invasion war. Among other things, power plants have been repeatedly bombed to strangle the population's energy supply.
We must protect ourselves against that in Denmark, he says.
