The information about the attacks comes from security sources, who say that the Congolese military has, among other things, attacked the important mining town of Rubaya.
M23, which is supported by neighboring Rwanda, has controlled large, mineral-rich areas in eastern Congo since its offensive against the Democratic Republic of Congo's government forces began in 2021.
The town of Rubaya in North Kivu province was captured by M23 in April 2024.
The mines in the Rubaya region account for between 15 and 30 percent of global coltan production - an important component in mobile phones and other devices.
The mediating countries, the United States and Angola, have negotiated ceasefire agreements in the region - without any effect on the ground.
