Sweden's round of 16 opponent will be decided late Tuesday evening, and they can expect one of the toughest possible opponents in France.
The only way Sweden could face Germany instead would be if the best third-placed teams come from groups B, E, F, G, H, J, K and L - a microscopic possibility. If Spain defeats Uruguay tonight, it will be 100 percent clear that Sweden will face France in the round of 16.
Norway will face Ivory Coast in the round of 16.
Large rotation
Norway came into the Group I final with a B lineup, making ten changes to the starting eleven from their last match against Senegal.
However, France largely fielded its regular lineup - and one man in particular was in top form.
Ousmane Dembélé, currently playing for Paris Saint-Germain, led France to victory with a hat-trick.
The 1–0 came in the seventh minute from a shot on the right in the penalty area that beat Norwegian reserve goalkeeper Egil Selvik.
Norwegian response
Dembélé's second came just over ten minutes later with a long-range shot.
Norway responded quickly. The team needed only four passes after the kick-off to reduce the deficit to 2–1. The scorer was Thelo Aasgaard.
But in the 32nd minute it was Dembélé's turn again. With his left foot he again beat Selvik, and the 29-year-old has now scored as many World Cup goals as teammate Kylian Mbappé - four.
"We want to win every game, and we will stay focused because what comes next will be even more difficult," Dembélé said.
Senegal won big
In the second half, Norway pushed forward and had a few chances but were unable to reduce the deficit. They missed a penalty in the 50th minute. In added time, Desiré Doué made the final score 4–1.
In the group's other match, Senegal beat Iraq 5–0, which means Senegal has a good chance of becoming one of the eight third-placed teams to advance in the tournament.
