The patient was admitted to a hospital after an accident, where a computer tomography examination revealed a head injury.
Medical expertise was consulted, but the patient was deemed able to stay at the current hospital. However, the patient's condition deteriorated and was then transferred to a hospital with better facilities to treat the injury. But during transport, the condition worsened, and only a few hours after arriving at the second hospital, the patient died.
Region Västerbotten writes in a press release that "the conditions for monitoring and potential treatment could have been better" if the patient had been transferred earlier. "It may possibly have improved the prognosis for the patient," the region writes.
After the investigation, the region has taken measures to reduce the risk of repetition and subsequently reported the case to the Health and Social Care Inspectorate according to lex Maria.
