The announcement comes just days before the country hosts the UN climate talks.
This is the fourth consecutive year that deforestation of the native rainforest has decreased. Despite this, an area of forest four times the size of London, 5,796 square kilometers, was destroyed between August 2024 and July 2025, according to figures from the National Institute for Space Research, which records forest cover via satellite.
Brazil has pledged to halt deforestation by 2030 and has made forest protection a top priority for the COP30 climate talks, which take place in Belém, Brazil, in November.
The Amazon rainforest, which spans nine countries, is considered crucial in the fight against climate change.
