279 dead have been recovered from the site where a passenger plane crashed in a residential area in the Indian city of Ahmedabad on Thursday, according to an Indian police source.
Previously, the death toll was reported to be 265. The final number will not be able to be announced until after DNA identification, which usually takes time.
The plane from Air India crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad in northwestern India on Thursday. 242 people were on board. One person on board is reported to have survived.
