The measures further restrict Palestinians' mobility and make their everyday lives more difficult, according to the Commission Against Settlements and Walls, a body within the Palestinian Authority.
The new barriers include metal gates that block entrances to villages and towns and between towns. In some places, Israeli soldiers are stationed at them. According to Palestinians, the gates have irregular opening hours and some of them can remain closed for several days.
The Israeli military has also previously imposed restrictions on movement in the occupied West Bank, but the number of barriers is now reportedly unprecedented.
According to Israel, the gates are not intended to restrict people's movement, but are for "management and monitoring."
