On Sunday, two people died in a head-on collision on Norra Bridge outside Örebro. The collision is said to have occurred after one of the cars came onto the wrong side of the road, according to witnesses.

On Saturday, a fatal accident also occurred in Norsjö in Västerbotten, where a 60-year-old woman died. On Saturday, a woman who was injured in a head-on collision in Gysinge in Sandviken Municipality the day before also died.

Earlier in the week, fatal accidents were reported from, among other places, Eskilstuna, where a man was run over on E20 after stopping and getting out of his car. In Vansbro, a man died after his car was hit by a freight train, and on Thursday, a woman died after a head-on collision in Kil.

Malte Burwick is the head of the organization Atentis, which works for increased traffic safety.

It's depressing and tragic, he says about the start of the traffic year.

According to Burwick, it is likely that the classic traffic safety deficiencies are behind this. For example, not adapting speed to road conditions, not keeping the required distance, or not focusing fully on driving.

When it's slippery, when there are difficult road conditions, then there are extra small margins.

What is needed is for everyone to really take this seriously and apply the driving style they once learned when they were educated to get their driver's license, says Burwick.
