Two Danish fighter jets of the type F-35 have been put on standby at the military airbase in Skrydstrup, reports Denmark's defense on its website.
The fighter jets are intended as support for the defense of Poland and NATO's eastern flank. They are to contribute to NATO's deterrence and, if necessary, the defense of the eastern border against Russia and Belarus, it says.
"The Danish contribution can support Poland's defense readiness and air defense in the near future”, says Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen (V) according to the post on the website.
At the same time, two Norwegian fighter jets of the same type landed in Polish Poznan on Thursday, reports Norwegian TV2. They are also to contribute to what is described as a sharp NATO mission with the task of protecting the military alliance's and Poland's airspace.
Two more Norwegian fighter jets are expected to join the effort later.
Norway also participated in the surveillance of Polish airspace during a period at the beginning of the year.
