The Danish badminton coach Joachim Persson has been banned for four years for breach of the rules of the game. It is said to have been revealed by the coach's own players – European Champion Anders Antonsen, according to Ritzau.

The International Badminton Federation's (BWF) disciplinary board has deemed Persson guilty of having bet money on a match in Japan Open 2024.

"BWF was informed by a world-ranked player that they had seen the accused place a bet on their mobile phone on an ongoing badminton match in Japan Open", it states in the disciplinary board's verdict, according to Ritzau.

Persson was fired as coach for Antonsen in August 2024, the same month that Antonsen revealed the betting.

It further appears that Persson will receive a two-year suspension for violating the rules of the game and an additional two years for not cooperating with the federation's investigators.

This is the second time the Danish coach is suspended for violating the rules of the game. In 2019, he received an 18-month suspension for having bet money on matches he himself had played, during his own active career.
