The two data cables between Finland and Estonia that were damaged on Christmas Day are now repaired, reports Hufvudstadsbladet with reference to a press release from the Finnish operator Elisa.
Repairing the two cables took longer than expected due to harsh weather, according to the operator, who also writes that the damaged cables did not affect the company's service in either Estonia or Finland.
The data cables were damaged on Christmas Day in what is now being investigated as gross sabotage. The suspicion is that the vessel Eagle S dragged its anchor behind it for tens of kilometers and thereby damaged the cables.
In addition to the data cables, an electricity transmission cable, Estlink 2, was also damaged and has not yet been repaired.
