In the capital city of Prague, the subway and trams that stood completely still for about half an hour were affected, according to the newspaper Blesk. Shortly after lunchtime, the subway started rolling again, however.
The fire department is reported to have been called out to rescue a large number of people who got stuck in elevators.
National train lines, including those between Prague and the city of Kolín, have also been affected.
The power outage is said to have been caused by very high voltage, writes the newspaper Mladá fronta Dnes. The exact cause is still unclear, but according to the authorities, there is nothing to suggest a cyberattack.
