The combined efforts of Swedish governments during the 25 years that Dawit Isaak has been imprisoned have not been sufficient, a number of cultural leaders write in an appeal in Svenska Dagbladet on the day it is 25 years since Isaak was imprisoned.
Spokespeople for Reporters Without Borders, Amnesty, the Swedish Publicists' Club, Swedish PEN and Newspaper Publishers, among others, are also among the signatories.
A majority of the parties said before the election that they want to increase Sweden's efforts for Dawit Isaak's release. Now it is up to the incoming government to prove it, according to the appeal.
Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) marks the anniversary in a post on X.
"We have great understanding for the deep disappointment and frustration that not least relatives feel," writes Kristersson and continues:
"What Sweden thinks is known: we want Dawit Isaak to be released on humanitarian grounds so that he can be reunited with his family in Sweden. The work continues continuously and with undiminished force."
