A four-day workweek will be introduced for employees at state-owned companies, Deputy Prime Minister Óscar Pérez-Oliva Fraga announced. The country will also be forced to ration fuel and reduce public transport services.
Fuel should be used to protect vital facilities for the population and for essential economic activities, Pérez-Oliva Fraga said on Cuban television.
The minister blames the energy crisis in the authoritarian-ruled country, which has around 9.6 million inhabitants, mainly on the sanctions the United States has imposed on Cuba since 1962. US President Donald Trump is intensifying threats against countries, including Mexico, that trade with Cuba.
