Crystal Palace are not allowed to play the European League next season. The reason is that the club's former owner, the American John Textor, is also the majority owner of Lyon, which also qualified for the European League.

It is the European Football Association's (Uefa) rules that stop the Premier League team. This despite John Textor having already sold his 43 percent stake in the club, something that is said to have happened too late.

Crystal Palace qualified for the European League after winning the FA Cup in the spring.

Now the team is moved down to the European Conference League, while Lyon remains in the European League because the team finished higher in the French league (sixth) than Crystal Palace did in the Premier League (twelfth).

There is a possibility to appeal, according to English media.

Nottingham is the team that, according to reports, is awarded Crystal Palace's place in the European League. The team finished seventh behind Aston Villa, which took the sixth and last European spot in the Premier League last season.
