Tre Kronor Dam plays its first match at home after the name change. A change that is not welcomed with open arms by the players, however. The women's crowns are in the walls, we like it and I think many people like it, says national team star Hanna Olsson.

Tonight, the women's national team plays its first match at home after the name change when Damkronorna became Tre Kronor Dam.

The Czech Republic awaits in the home tournament in Ängelholm.

But if you ask the players, it is still the Damkronorna that applies. Tre Kronor Dam is not something that has been established, even though the national team has already played one tournament since the name change.

People still haven't gotten used to it, especially for those of us who have been around for a while, so the Damkronorna will keep up. I like it and people have always said that. It's commercial that we are a national team, Tre Kronor women's and men's, so in terms of sponsorship it might be good, says Hanna Olsson.

“Someone decided it”

The 26-year-old Frölunda forward made his debut in the national team in the 2014-15 season and has been with the team for a long time.

She is supported by Lina Ljungblom, the forward who plays for Montreal in the professional league PWHL, the women's equivalent of the NHL.

"Some people have decided that, so you just have to try to get used to it. It's a bit difficult when Damkronorna has been around for so long. But I don't think about it too much," she says.

“A sport for everyone”

National team manager Anders Lundberg explains the name change:

We not only changed the names of our two national representative teams, but also overhauled our entire language in all our leagues, from children and youth all the way up to our leagues and national teams. It has always been assumed that men's hockey has been the norm, and if we are going to change that and be a sport for everyone, we can't have that.

In connection with the name change, which became official in August, the Swedish Ice Hockey Association decided that the men's national team will be called Tre Kronor Herr.
