It is on the Players' Association's website that the Secretary-General criticizes the Swedish Football Association's (SVFF) decision to support Saudi Arabia as the host of the men's football World Championship 2034.

Magnus Erlingmark believes that the association relies on the International Football Federation Fifa's judgment.

"We are undoubtedly in a new era when Sweden's largest special sports association (SvFF) hides behind Fifa's flag and supports a country with laws that restrict human rights and freedoms", he writes.

"As the Swedish football association blindly relying on Fifa, which time and time again has shown that it only cares about the money and not how, where, or at the expense of whom the money comes in, appears not only naive but also a slap in the face to all those who have fought for human rights and the Swedish sports movement as a whole."

"That politics within Fifa, the football world, and the world in general require that you choose your battles, we fully understand, but this is not a battle to choose to ignore."

The decision on the host country for the World Championship 2034 is being made at Fifa's congress today. Saudi Arabia is the only candidate.
