For the first time, the European Cup is being organized for women's football - the tournament that runs alongside the Champions League.

The prize money between the men's and women's finals differs enormously. The winners of the men's Europa League final will receive around 65 million Swedish kronor. In the women's final, the winner will receive around 860,000 Swedish kronor.

"I didn't think it was that low, and it makes me sad to hear," says Stina Lennartsson.

Hammarby coach William Strömberg thinks similarly about the situation:

"There's money in that treasure chest, I think, so it could be a little bigger than that amount."

One percent from UEFA

Häcken knocked out German side Eintracht Frankfurt in the semi-finals - and the journey to the final has involved significant travel costs.

The Gothenburg club's sports director Christian Lundström believes that the sums from the tournament cover their costs - with a small surplus.

"The part of the money that UEFA gives to women's football is not even one percent. So the equation is quite easy: there will be less money than the men's. However, we see in the future that there will be an increase," says the sports director.

“Responsibility to invest”

Former national team legend Caroline Jönsson is vice chair of the players' association and a member of FIFPRO.

She thinks that UEFA should take responsibility in this matter.

"They are supposed to run women's and men's football and develop it, just like we in the players' association do to some extent. So I also think they have a responsibility to invest in their products - and I don't think you do that by setting these low price points," says Caroline Jönsson and continues:

"It is clear that where we have the political will to change this, both at the dual-club level (clubs with men's and women's teams), where they are gathering strength, and at the political level in UEFA, I think they have to review their product catalogue and look at investments. That is what you do in normal business life: you shift investment from one product to another so that that product becomes more profitable in the future."
