Sweden lost at home to Kosovo with 0–1 and World Championship games are further away. The criticism against the team and in particular Jon Dahl Tomasson did not wait.

The Swedish national team was booed by the home crowd at Ullevi. But it's not just the supporters who are criticizing the Swedish performance in the World Championship qualifiers.

One is a little ashamed. It's embarrassing, it hurts all over my body, says Radiosportens expert Johan Elmander and means that the national team captain Jon Dahl Tomasson should be fired.

There's no point in talking about it, he's done his job in the Swedish national team.

His former national team colleague, Mikael Lustig – who is now an expert on SVT – is on the same track.

If he doesn't get fired now, he'll never get fired, says Lustig.

”Break the tradition”

Football columnist Olof Lundh on Fotbollskanalen points out that what many are now calling for, to fire the national team captain for the Swedish football team, has never happened before. All national team captains that Blågult have had since the role was introduced in the 1960s have been given confidence throughout their contracts or until they themselves stopped.

”It's time to break that tradition”, writes Lundh.

Abroad, the Swedish national team and Jon Dahl Tomasson are also being criticized.

In Norwegian VG, Sweden's World Championship qualifying performance is called a ”crisis” and in Denmark, Sweden's ”big collapse” is the main news at Ekstrabladet on Tuesday night.

British Independent writes that Sweden's World Championship hopes are basically gone after a new ”shock defeat”.

Has confidence

Not quite as shocked were the Swedish media after the latest performances. Expressens Therese Strömberg holds Jon Dahl Tomasson ultimately responsible for the pale national team.

”The absolute clearest thing this team has shown in the last matches is that they are completely without confidence.”

Kim Källström announced on Monday evening that the national team management has continued confidence in Jon Dahl Tomasson until they no longer have it. He also claims that they have not contacted any potential replacement. The Swedish media, however, seem to be in complete agreement that it's something they should do – the sooner the better.

”Jon Dahl Tomasson can't possibly lead this team one more day”, writes Aftonbladets Simon Bank.
