The court's decision is final and comes after President Klaus Iohannis publicly disclosed previously classified intelligence material. It is stated that Russia has conducted a coordinated campaign on, for example, Tiktok and Telegram to promote Russia-friendly Calin Georgescu, who won the first round of voting.

The court has decided "to annul the entire electoral process in the matter of the presidential election to ensure the correctness and legality of the election", it is written.

The second round of voting, which was planned for Sunday, is thus cancelled. A new date has not been presented.

When the election results were presented after the election on November 24, it was a shock. The NATO-critical Russia-friendly Calin Georgescu received the most votes, followed by liberal Elena Lasconi, mayor of the small town of Campulung. Thus, none of the pre-favourites made it to the second round.

Romania's Prime Minister, Social Democrat Marcel Ciolacu, who was one of the losers when the original election result came, writes on social media that "Romanians' votes were distorted by shameless Russian interference".
