In June 2023, five horses that were tied up on Djurgården and ran amok. A 70-year-old man was so seriously injured in the tumult that he died. Now, the Svea Court of Appeal is sentencing the horses' owner to one year and three months' imprisonment for causing another's death, causing bodily harm, and creating danger for another.

"Even the Court of Appeal believes that the man's actions – tying up the horses at a restaurant without the possibility for them to free themselves and then sitting down on the outdoor seating area – have been negligent and led to the damages and the death," says Petrus Rosell, one of the judges on the Court of Appeal.

The Court of Appeal also believes that another person, who was sitting in a car that one of the horses ran into, has the right to compensation for violation.
