In March, the 18-year-old was sentenced to 14 years in prison for murder in the Södertörn District Court, despite pleading not guilty. He was 17 years old at the time of the offense, and the prison sentence is the longest that can be imposed on a minor.

In his appeal, he is seeking acquittal or mitigation of the sentence.

The convicted person's defense has questioned several parts of the district court's assessment.

The district court rules out that there were more than three people in the pedestrian tunnel, but I think another judge may have a different opinion about that, said his lawyer Harri Keränen to TT after the trial.

It was on April 10 last year that 39-year-old Mikael was shot to death in front of his son's eyes after Mikael confronted a group of youths, including the convicted murderer.

The alleged shooter has also appealed the two verdicts for, among other things, attempted murder of gang members from a rival gang in 2023, for which he was also convicted at the trial.

The proceedings in the Svea Court of Appeal are expected to continue until May 26.
