In March, the 18-year-old was sentenced to 14 years in prison for murder in the Södertörn District Court, despite pleading not guilty. He was 17 years old at the time of the crime, and the prison sentence is the longest that can be imposed on a minor.

In his appeal, he is seeking acquittal or a reduction.

Provided more details in new interrogations

Prosecutor Ove Jäverfelt says that his request for the 18-year-old to be convicted of murder remains, but he also has a secondary request for gross negligence leading to another's death, reports DN.

This is after the 18-year-old provided more detailed statements in a supplementary interrogation than during the interrogation conducted shortly after the shooting.

He has said that it was he who shot, but that it was not intentional and that it was Mikael who made the shots go off. He has claimed that Mikael grabbed the weapon and that the shots then went off. I don't think that's true. But if the Court of Appeal believes that, I want them to have the opportunity to convict him for gross negligence in having a weapon, says Ove Jäverfelt to DN.

The defense questioned the district court

The convicted person's defense has previously questioned several parts of the district court's assessment.

The district court excludes the possibility that there were more than three people in the pedestrian tunnel, but I think another judge may have a different opinion, said his lawyer Harri Keränen to TT after the trial.

It was on April 10 last year that Mikael, 39, was killed in front of his son's eyes after Mikael confronted a group of youths, including the convicted person.

The alleged shooter has appealed the two verdicts for, among other things, attempted murder of rival gang members in 2023, which he was also convicted of during the trial.

The proceedings in the Svea Court of Appeal are expected to continue until May 26.
