A court has blocked the U.S. government's attempt to deport Palestinian student Mohsen Mahadawi from the United States. Mahadawi led pro-Palestinian protests at Columbia University in New York. He was arrested last spring but released after two weeks. However, the government has continued to try to deport him.
Mahadawi was born in a Palestinian refugee camp in the West Bank, but has lived legally in the United States for the past 10 years.
The immigration judge cited formal errors in the process when prosecutors sought to deport Mahadawi. The decision can be appealed.
