Alejandro Arias Monge was arrested on Friday in Río Frío in the province of Heredia after police raided a meeting between criminal network leaders, Costa Rican Attorney General Carlos Díaz said at a press conference.
During the operation, a suspected gang leader was killed, while eight police officers were injured in an intense exchange of gunfire in which around 2,500 shots were fired.
According to Attorney General Carlos Díaz, "El diablo" has been wanted for about 10 years and is suspected of having been hiding in neighboring Nicaragua for a time.
