The court concluded on Thursday that the man was guilty of murder, and he would undergo a forensic psychiatric examination before a sentence was determined.
However, on Friday night he was found dead in the Ystad detention center.
"This whole story, from beginning to end, is just so damn sad. In my years as a prosecutor, I have never experienced a similar situation," prosecutor Kristina Wedelsbäck told the newspaper.
The police were at the detention center on Friday to "take investigative measures," writes Ystads Allehanda.
