The plaintiffs have suffered enormous financial damage, says public prosecutor Veronica Närfors.
The setup was to start by enticing relatives and friends to invest. Then, people in their vicinity have been persuaded to join in.
Then you have relied on the fact that if someone you know or have as a family member has done this, then it's safe, says the prosecutor.
The plaintiffs have been urged to take out loans to be able to invest.
According to the prosecutor, it can be likened to a pyramid game: Deposits from new investors have been used to pay interest costs to already existing investors.
The profit from the crime is estimated to be around 32 million kronor, but the plaintiffs have lost almost double that due to high interest costs.
In total, eight people are being prosecuted in Södertälje district court. Two of them are identified as the main perpetrators and are being prosecuted for serious fraud and serious accounting offenses.
The evidence consists, among other things, of chats and tapped phone calls, as well as mapping of the money flows.
The trial begins in Attunda district court on October 3.
