Connie Francis competed with Elvis Presley and Tommy Steele for the highest positions on the charts in the late 1950s with songs like "Stupid Cupid", "Everybody's Somebody's Fool" and "Who's Sorry Now".

As recently as this spring, her song "Pretty Little Baby" went viral on Tiktok, which brought the 87-year-old singer back into the spotlight.

Connie Francis was born in Newark outside New York and had her breakthrough as a teenager with "Who's Sorry Now" which topped the chart in the UK in 1958.

She continued to have hits on both sides of the Atlantic for several years after that, but like many other stars of the 1950s, she was swept away by the pop wave when the Beatles and the Rolling Stones took over in the early 1960s.

Connie Francis continued to perform, but her private life was marked by tragedies. An operation temporarily destroyed her singing voice and after being raped in 1974, she became involved in the fight against violence against women, among other things in collaboration with President Ronald Reagan in the 1980s.
