The reason is that the premises were in such poor condition that the renovation cost more than expected.
There has been asbestos, reinforcing wires and leaks in the sewer pipes. This renovation was 27 million more expensive than we had budgeted, said Maxim's CEO, Ellen Telje, to Svenska Dagbladet.
The concert venue was saved from closure in 2022 when a new ownership group led by Telje took over.
"We were 60 partners who stepped in and saved Maxim," she said.
Maxim is located at Karlaplan in Stockholm and has operated as a private theater since the 1970s. It was later run by Brasse Brännström and Lill Lindfors, among others. In the 1960s, the premises were used by Swedish Radio and, among other things, a concert by The Beatles was recorded there.
