The Norwegian government has appointed a commission to review the Norwegian tax system. The group includes representatives from eight parliamentary parties, two tax lawyers and two researchers, with the aim of making Norwegian taxes more competitive.

The assignment includes a review of the balance between different types of tax revenues and fees that provide revenue to the Norwegian treasury.

Norway's Finance Minister Jens Stoltenberg, from the Social Democratic Labor Party, says in a press release that he wants the Commission to contribute to more predictability for Norwegian households and companies.

"The appointment of the tax commission is an important step on the path to a broad tax settlement," he adds.

The commission, chaired by Eigil Knutsen from the Labour Party, is to report its conclusions by July 1, 2026.

The Progress Party, the second largest party in the Storting, does not participate in the commission.
