Colombia will stop exporting coal to Israel due to the war in Gaza, Colombian President Gustavo Petro announces.
"We will break off coal exports to Israel until they stop the genocide," Petro writes on X.
Colombia is Israel's main coal supplier, with an export value of around $450 million in 2023, according to the Israeli embassy in Bogota.
According to a government decree, the restrictions will remain in place until Israel complies with decisions on provisional measures issued by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague.
In late May, as part of a case brought by South Africa, ICJ ordered Israel to immediately stop military operations against Rafah in southern Gaza and keep border crossings open for aid shipments.
Petro has also announced that Colombia will stop buying Israeli weapons.
