"The aircraft fleet to be acquired is completely new, with the latest technology, already in place in Brazil", writes Petro on X, and adds that a letter of intent has been signed.
It is unclear how large the order is. Defense company Saab's press chief Mattias Rådström says in a written comment to TT:
"It is, of course, very pleasing news and very positive for Sweden and Saab that Colombia's President Petro announces his intention to acquire Gripen E/F".
Furthermore, Rådström says that they have a "very strong offer to Colombia".
"There is still no contract or order, and we now look forward to continued discussions with Colombia".
Sweden and Brazil have had a cooperation around the Gripen system since earlier. A facility for development, final assembly, testing, and evaluation of the planes is located in São Paulo.
