Saab has signed an agreement with the Colombian government for an order for 17 Jas Gripen, the company writes in a press release.

The deal is worth 3.1 billion euros, equivalent to around 34 billion kronor. Delivery is expected to take place in 2026–2032.

"The sale of Jas Gripen to Colombia is one of Sweden's largest export deals ever. It is a deal that strengthens both Swedish security and the economy, and demonstrates the clear connection between trade and security," says Minister of Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Benjamin Dousa (M), who is in Colombia, in a comment.

Back in April this year, Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced plans to renew his defense with Swedish fighter jets.

“This marks the beginning of a strong and long-term partnership that will strengthen Colombia's defense and security, benefit its people and strengthen the country's innovative power,” says Saab CEO Micael Johansson in the press release.

Minister of Defense Pål Jonson (M) also "looks forward to deepening defense policy cooperation" and emphasizes "the competitiveness of the Swedish defense industry and high technological capabilities," in a press release.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Maria Malmer Stenergard (M) agrees:

"Sweden and Colombia have very good relations that go back a long way. I look forward to continuing to strengthen and broaden the cooperation between our countries," says the minister.

As recently as August this year, Thailand purchased four Gripen E/F fighter jets from Saab. The total order value for that deal amounts to just over five billion kronor.
