Presidents Delcy Rodríguez and Gustavo Petro say that the countries will "liberate the border areas from mafias" who, among other things, smuggle cocaine, gold and rare minerals and engage in human trafficking.
The announcement came in connection with Petro's visit to Venezuela, which is the first time a foreign leader has visited the country since then-President Nicolás Maduro was captured by the United States at the beginning of the year.
Colombia's Gustavo Petro has harshly criticized the U.S. effort, but has also been heavily criticized by the United States, which has accused him of not doing enough to combat drug production in Colombia.
