Coldest January in Europe since 2010, Copernicus says

This January was the coldest Europe has experienced since 2010, with an average temperature of 2.34 degrees, according to the EU's climate service Copernicus.

Despite a cold snap across Europe and the United States, January was the fifth-warmest on record worldwide, with temperatures above average across much of the globe.

The global average temperature was 1.47 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels.
