German ski star Victoria Carl, who tested positive in a doping test, will miss the Olympics, the German Ski Federation says.

Victoria Carl is suspended pending a decision on the doping charge. It was in March that she tested positive for the banned substance clenbuterol at the Military World Championships, which was found in a cough medicine she had taken on the advice of the military national team.

Now the German ski association DSV writes that it is "unlikely" that Carl will compete during the season, including the Olympics in February.

"I still find it difficult to accept that a moment of carelessness and incorrect medical treatment has now shattered my Olympic dream. At the same time, I hope for a quick and appropriate decision that at least gives me a realistic chance to continue my career," says Carl.

The doping case is similar to the one that led to Norwegian star Therese Johaug being banned for 18 months. She used a mouthwash containing the banned substance clostebol, an ointment she was given by the national team doctor.

Victoria Carl is Germany's top cross-country skier and she came second in the overall World Cup last season.
