A temporary ceasefire for 48 hours has been concluded between Afghanistan after a day of fighting. A Pakistani attack on the Afghan capital Kabul claimed at least five fatalities, and up to 20 more people are reported to have been killed in clashes in border areas.

The clashes between Afghan and Pakistani forces have intensified in recent times, with a number of people killed in skirmishes and battles along the border between the two countries. Late on Wednesday, both Pakistan and the Taliban regime in Afghanistan confirmed that a ceasefire for two days is initiated.

Wednesday had been filled with violence with reports of attacks with many dead.

Two explosions in Kabul on Wednesday evening local time, followed by Pakistan's military confirming that they carried out "precision attacks" against the Afghan capital.

An Italian individual organization that runs a hospital in Kabul said late on Wednesday that at least five people were killed and another 35 injured in the attacks.

Two days

The clashes between the two countries' forces have claimed between 10 and 20 lives in one day when battles erupted in border areas, according to the Pakistani military, which also said that Afghan forces were attacked in border areas and that tanks and military outposts were destroyed.

Around 15 civilians have been killed and dozens injured when battles have erupted in border areas on Wednesday, according to anonymous government sources in Afghanistan to AFP.

Several injured

An employee at the district hospital in Spin Boldak, near the border with Pakistan, confirms the death toll and adds that more than 80 women and children have been injured in the unrest.

Explosions in Kabul last week started a spiral of violence between Afghanistan and Pakistan where deadly battles have broken out in disputed border areas since the weekend.
