At least 17 people have been killed, including several children, in an Israeli robot attack on a school building in Nuseirat in central Gaza, according to Palestinian authorities.

More than 40 are reported to be injured. According to reports, the school was used as a shelter for Palestinians on the run.

The Israeli military claims that the school housed a command center from which Hamas planned and carried out attacks against Israel, reports The Times of Israel.

Another Israeli attack is reported from Maghazi in central Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile, the situation in northern Gaza is deteriorating. In recent times, Israel has besieged large parts of the area and repeatedly attacked, among other things, Beit Lahia and Jabalia. Since the siege began on October 5, at least 770 Palestinians have been killed in the area, according to Gaza's civil defense on Thursday.

The civil defense is now warning that the situation is unsustainable.

We cannot provide humanitarian services to citizens in the northern governorate of Gaza Strip due to threats from Israeli occupation forces, which have threatened to kill and bomb our teams if they stay in Jabalia, says spokesperson Mahmud Bassal.

Rescue workers have been targeted on several occasions, according to Bassal. According to Bassal, Israeli forces have, among other things, destroyed the civil defense's only vehicle in the area.

Accused of genocide

The Israeli military announces that operations in the Jabalia area will continue and that dozens of "terrorists have been eliminated".

Tens of thousands of Palestinians have again been forced to flee, including Raghib Hamuda, who has taken refuge in Gaza City after Israel called for the evacuation of the school where his family sought shelter.

The military used bulldozers to destroy the school after evacuating all refugees, he tells AFP.

On Thursday, Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas claims that Israel intends to "empty" Gaza Strip of Palestinians, particularly in the northern parts. In a speech at the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia, he accuses Israel of genocide, ethnic cleansing, and using starvation as a weapon.
