A doctor at a circumcision clinic in Gothenburg is stopped by the Health and Care Inspectorate (Ivo) since serious malpractices have been discovered, reports SVT News West.
The doctor's main task was circumcision of boys. The malpractices were revealed during an inspection – and Ivo considers that patients' lives and health have been risked.
The medicine Stesolid has been used as a sedative on small children, which Ivo calls controversial since it can cause serious side effects. The inspection also revealed serious hygiene deficiencies.
Between December 2023 and May 2024, 173 circumcisions were performed at the clinic.
In 2021, the doctor was given a probationary period by the Health and Medical Care Responsibility Board since three boys were affected by complications after the procedures.
