Christa Pike describes constant pain after surviving failed execution

A month ago, she survived an execution attempt. Now, convicted murderer Christa Pike describes a life marked by constant pain. “Not a moment has passed since that night that I haven’t felt pain,” she says in her first statement.

“My body hurts. My arms hurt. My hands hurt. My throat hurts. I still struggle to speak. And the pain is not just physical. It’s also in my mind and in my soul,” she says.

Pike, who was sentenced to death for the brutal murder of a classmate in 1995, survived two lethal doses of pentobarbital on September 30.

After the execution attempt, she was taken to hospital unconscious and put on a ventilator. She regained consciousness six days later. Earlier in October, she was released from hospital and returned to prison.
