At the same time, the World Health Organization (WHO) states that over 35,000 cases of cholera and 852 deaths from the disease have been reported this year in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The country is the second worst affected among 20 African countries with cholera outbreaks, after South Sudan which has reported 63,000 cases.
But while the number of cases is decreasing in countries such as South Sudan, Sudan and Angola, they are increasing in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The epicenter of the cholera outbreak is located in the poor district of Pakadjuma, in the eastern part of the capital Kinshasa.
Pakadjuma has been heavily affected by flooding, lack of clean drinking water and sanitary facilities as well as "high mobility among the population", according to Africa CDC.
