Approximately 80 percent of the goods that were seized or stopped by the EU countries' customs authorities in 2024 came from China, writes the EU Commission in a report.
Last year, more than 48,000 shipments of Chinese goods were stopped from entering the countries, which is an increase of approximately 180 percent since 2022. The figure for the country with the next most stopped goods, the USA, was in comparison more than 3000.
The seizures consist mainly of health articles, household products and electronics that are not considered to meet the EU's requirements.
In total, approximately 400,000 checks were carried out by the countries' customs authorities last year, which corresponds to a fraction of all goods that were exported to the union that year.
