China's exports unexpectedly rose by 1 percent in April compared to the same month last year, despite deliveries to the US plummeting in the wake of President Donald Trump's trade war.
Analysts had expected an export increase of 2 percent, according to Bloomberg.
Donald Trump introduced tariffs on Chinese goods exceeding 100 percent at the beginning of April, which is also reflected in the official Chinese statistics show that exports to the US have decreased by 21 percent in April compared to the same period last year.
However, at the same time, China's exports to the EU have increased by 8 percent and by 21 percent to the Southeast Asian Asean countries.
Imports to China simultaneously decreased by 0.2 percent in April compared to the same period last year, according to figures from the country's customs authority.
