All nine have been expelled from the country's army for having broken discipline, according to a statement from the Chinese Ministry of Defense's spokesperson Zhang Xiaogang.
The highest-ranking military officer among the nine is He Weidong, vice chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC). He has not been seen in public since March.
The investigations are said to be part of President Xi Jinping's efforts against corruption. He has called corruption the "biggest threat" to the Communist Party, but critics see the efforts as a tool for Xi Jinping to eliminate political rivals.
