”The results in the 'Youth and media' series 2025 show a number of trend breaks. Our assessment is that, among other things, the Public Health Agency's recommendations for children's use of digital media and the intense debate about screen time that has been going on in recent years have had an impact”, says analyst Yvonne Andersson at the Media Authority, in a press release.
The reports Youth and media 2025, Young children and media 2025 and Parents and media 2025 are based on Sweden's largest statistical survey of children's and young people's media habits.
The results show, among other things, that the usage time for mobile, computer and tablet has decreased by 40 minutes per day since 2022 in the age group 9–12. The time decreases also in the other age groups.
At the same time, daily reading of books and newspapers is increasing. Among 9-year-olds, it is 39 percent who read daily.
Furthermore, the proportion of 9-year-olds who do not have access to a mobile phone at all has almost doubled since 2022. The reports also show that the use of social media is decreasing among children under 13, but it is still half of the children in the age group 9–12 who use social media, according to the report.
