Both Kosovare Asllani and Nathalie Björn recently suffered injuries that will keep them out of football for a while. In addition, Anna Sandberg will also miss the squad due to injury.
To prevent Johanna Rytting Kaneryd from ending up on the same gloomy list, it is unlikely she will play in Tuesday's World Cup qualifier, according to Tony Gustavsson.
Others in match form
The Chelsea star has had problems with one of her calves and has mostly trained on her own during the national team training camp this past week.
"Considering that we have so many key players with long-term injuries, I can't risk her getting injured and being out for a long time too," says Tony Gustavsson.
"So regardless of what I get tonight, I think it's extremely unlikely that we'll see her tomorrow, because we also have other offensive players who have trained for a whole week and are in match shape."
Like the challenge
In addition to the injured players, several established names, such as Magdalena Eriksson, have left the national team since the European Championship this summer.
It is a challenge ahead of this week's matches against Denmark and Serbia, admits Tony Gustavsson.
"But I like challenges. We don't win games by standing here feeling sorry for ourselves," he says.
"But then we have to take this challenge by the horns and show tomorrow that despite all these challenges thrown at us for many reasons, we will stick together as a team, stick together as a group and put in a very good performance, and we hope that it will be enough against Denmark."
