The company Allshares has compiled the salaries and remunerations of CEOs and board members of all Stockholm Stock Exchange-listed companies over several years.
This year's survey shows several major changes, including notable gender-related salary differences in a negative sense.
The salary gap between female and male CEOs has increased. The difference in basic salary between women and men was 8.2 percent in 2024, which can be compared to 5.9 percent the previous year. And although the number of women on CEO positions increased by six last year, the gap is still so large that it is difficult to make fair comparisons of salaries, according to the report.
What has the greatest impact on this gap is that there are so few women, and especially in the very largest companies. That women do not have equally high positions as men, which we also see more broadly on the labor market, is what affects this salary gap, says Erika Andersson at Allshare.
More Sustainability
Another major change in this year's survey, but in a more positive direction, is that the number of companies that have added sustainability criteria to their remuneration programs has almost doubled, from 22 percent to 42 percent in 2025.
Erika Andersson says that Sweden previously stood out by having relatively few companies with sustainability criteria in their incentive programs.
But now we see a real ketchup effect. In parallel with other financial criteria, they have sustainability criteria in the actual assessment of performance, she says.
Trump May Affect
However, sustainability in remuneration programs risks becoming a short-lived story, given the Trump administration's campaign to remove diversity and sustainability goals from corporate websites, reporting, and recruitment strategies.
We see that it is increasing now, but we will see what happens given the fairly clear directives from the American administration, says Erika Andersson.
