The elderly woman's restoration of "Ecce Homo," an antique painting of Jesus, was mocked and nicknamed "Apjesus." Images of the well-intentioned but botched restoration spread like wildfire around the world thirteen years ago.
The amateur artist's restoration, however, became a lucrative business for the small Spanish town of Borja, as curious tourists made a pilgrimage to the painting's home, the church of Santuario de Misericordia. The increased number of visitors contributed both to increased collections and to the flourishing of the town's restaurants and cafes.
